The Team’s Go-To Places for Inspiration
Vancouver Island: where we gather our inspiration
We live in a Coastal region full of jaw-dropping landscapes, lively communities, and engaging natural creations!
As proud Islanders, we all relate to having those special places from which we draw our most thoughtful inspiration.
Here are our team members’ go-to spots…

Josh - Senior Editor
Place of Inspiration: The Breakwater, Victoria, BC
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
I see it every day, but it’s never looked the same twice. I can’t think of a location I’ve seen look so completely different at different times.
Ashlee - Social Media Coordinator
Place of Inspiration: Patricia Bay, North Saanich, BC
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
For a quaint and relatively small spot, it offers such a vast view and a variety of things to look at, including a group of seals!
Peter - Senior Videographer
Place of Inspiration: Mount Prevost, BC
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
You can drive to the top but when you hike from the bottom (as I always do), you keep going up, and up, straight up the mountain. The farther you go the steeper it gets until you reach a part where you have to climb up the rocks. Once you pop out of the trees at the top and you look back over your shoulder you’re met by the most amazing views of the valley. One of the things that inspires me about it is the challenge and the reward. The first time I climbed it; it was very challenging but the reward when you get to the top makes the work worth it. Standing there looking over the valley makes me want to create content to show off the amazing place we live.
Luisa - Graphic Designer
Place of Inspiration: Botany Bay or Botanical Beach Provincial Park
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
The view is breath-taking, and I love walking/climbing along the shore and being in awe of the vast number of mussels, and the sea plants and other shore life. Being there really reminds me about how we share this space with so many other amazing creatures, and to tread lightly amongst these fellow earthlings. I also remember it being fairly quiet, even the waves are softer and gentler, and it gave me this feeling of protection from the grandeur of the ocean, like being in a hideaway. Also the water really sparkles in the sun (if you’re lucky enough that it’s sunny that day). I think it’s my favourite place on the island so far.
Emrey - Producer, Operations Manager
Place of Inspiration: Tofino, BC
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
The raw natural beauty, the lifestyle. I feel more connected and healthier when i am there. The beaches, ocean vistas and snow capped mountains add value to any PNW shoot. You can point a camera in any direction and capture a stunning image in Tofino, it is so iconic I find you capture the feeling of Tofino in an image.
Seen it in any work before?
Tofino and nearby Ucluelet have been used in numerous films, more recently Planet Of The Apes.
Joe - Producer, Creative Director
Place of Inspiration: Kingzett Lake (aka “The Quarry”), Cowichan Valley, BC
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
This working quarry was flooded unexpectedly and abandoned many years ago, and it’s become a go-to for swimming, hiking and star-gazing. The long road to the quarry is gated, so there’s no traffic on it. Although often busy, there’s an isolated intrigue about it. It’s the kind of place kids would swim in a 70s genre film, and that timeless visual appeal is inspiring.
Seen it in any work before? I did some camera work for a Lifetime thriller (Deadly Lessons, 2017) which included a foot chase through part of the quarry. We really only used it for the cliffs but it made for some great drone shots. I’ve seen some amateur drone footage of the lake that’s also stunning.
Mia - Producer, Development Coordinator
Place of Inspiration: My living room!
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
It’s my space filled with colour, art, doodads, and my (so far mostly surviving-I’m not a green thumb) plants.
Seen it in any work before? Yes in Penny Girl, and not yet released Prodigal, and my girls’ YouTube clips.
Gavin - Editor, Videographer
Place of Inspiration: The Stone Butter Church in Cowichan, BC
What do you love about it (how does it inspire you)?
It’s full of history and one can’t help but think that if the walls could talk, what stories they would tell. Also, it’s spooky and totally atmospheric at night.
Seen it in any work before? Yes, I’ve filmed there!
